Job summary

Qualifications

• WHMIS training is required.
• Registered Laboratory Assistant (OSMT) optional.
• Previous laboratory experience preferred (Histology).
• Laboratory environment: may handle biohazardous materials and chemicals/reagents.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment while adhering to LifeLabs standards of safety, accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a diverse range of work activities with accuracy and efficiency.
• Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling and prioritization of specimens and results.
• Data entry of specimens and triaging testing as appropriate.
• Perform manual and automated testing under supervision of a medical laboratory technologist.
• Address Quality Assurance indicators and escalate issues as needed.
• Identify incidents and non-conformances; escalate when appropriate.
• Maintain instrument/equipment as per defined maintenance intervals.
• Prepare reagents and controls using defined procedures.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
• Maintain proper supplies and a clean, safe work environment.
