Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services in Toronto, Ontario, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (OPSEU LAB) to join our microbiology team. This temporary part-time role supports patient care and provides exposure to manual and automated testing under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

You will perform specimen processing, data entry, quality assurance tasks, maintain a safe work environment, and follow LifeLabs procedures.

Qualifications

• WHMIS training is required.
• Previous laboratory experience in chemistry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a diverse range of work activities with accuracy and efficiency providing quality results.
• Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritization of specimens and results, following LifeLabs Procedures.
• Data entry of specimens, while triaging testing as appropriate.
• Perform manual and automated testing under the direct supervision of a medical laboratory technologist.
• Address Quality Assurance indicators as defined and consult resources where necessary.
• Identify incidents and non-conformances.
• Conduct and record instrument/equipment maintenance at defined intervals.
• Prepare and utilize reagents and controls using defined procedures.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
• Monitor and maintain adequate amounts and proper usage of laboratory supplies.
• Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment.
• Ensure bio hazardous and routine garbage is handled in compliance with EH&S procedures.
• Work in a manner that protects one’s own health and safety and that of co-workers.

Your responsibilities will include:

What you will bring to the role:

• WHMIS training
• Registered Laboratory Assistant (OSMT) optional
• Previous laboratory experience preferred (Chemistry)
• Laboratory environment: may handle biohazardous materials and chemicals/reagents
