Job summary

Gate Gourmet, a gategroup company, is seeking reliable associates for a full-time, union-represented position in Mississauga. The role involves loading and unloading catering materials, coordinating with relevant departments, and supporting flight schedules.

You will perform pre-trip checks, handle lifting up to 50 lbs, and work 8-hour shifts including weekends/holidays. A high school diploma, clean driving record, and strong English skills are required; food handler certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma; Math and English accreditations.
  • Class 5 driver's license with a clean record.
  • Food handlers' certificate is an asset.
  • Excellent command of English, written and verbal.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload catering materials with load security.
  • Complete pre-trip truck checks and assist driving of high loader vehicle.
  • Load aircraft according to flight schedules and labels.
  • Liaise with Transport Dispatcher for injuries, shortages, or disruptions.
  • Downtime tasks as assigned (laundry, storage, Pick & Pack).
  • Comply with regulations and company procedures.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Driving is NOT the primary duty of the job

Requirements:
  • Completes the gathering and fault free timely load / off-load of catering material, assuring complete load security, coordinating with all necessary departments and duty manager.
  • Completes the pre-trip truck checks, ensuring cleanliness and assumes responsibility for the driving of high loader catering vehicle.
  • Loads and unloads aircraft in accordance with flight schedules, loading lists / labels and stowage's in the correct galley positions and health and safety / customer requirements.
  • Liaises with the Transport Dispatcher in the case of injuries and accidents, absence of material, or any other irregular operations or block outs.
  • Uses in downtime accordance to the dispatcher (for example, laundry, storage, vehicle, Pick & Pack, etc.)
  • Compliance with the regulations (Materials / Security / Country / Safety / SQOR / Company Rules and Procedures).
Education/Technical Skills:
  • Minimum high school diploma is required, with specific accreditations in Math and English
  • Minimum Class 5 driver's license is required
  • Clean driving record
  • Food handlers' certificate is an asset
Work Experience:
  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
Job Requirements:
  • Work 8 hours rotative shifts that will include weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Work overtime when required
  • Arrive to work on-time
  • Pass a criminal background check and driver's abstract
  • Complete paperwork
  • Communicate with supervisors and co-workers
  • Follow directions
  • Work as a member of a team
  • Resident of Canada for a minimum of 2 years (this is a bonified occupational requirement)
Job Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent communicator (oral and written), who demonstrates sound judgment, tact, and works well in high-pressure situations.
  • Current Driver's license with a clean driver's abstract and pass a criminal check
  • Must have skill and ability to understand and read spec.
  • Able to handle multi-tasks and adapt to change.
  • Self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in an environment that encourages and fosters teamwork, participation, creativity, honesty and mutual respect.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques, as regular and repetitive heavy lifting (approx. 50lbs) is required.
  • Ability to work shift work
Environmental Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Majority of duties performed outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move product, equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds
  • This is a physically demanding position - Regularly stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during shifts of 8+ hours
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 20-25 feet
Language / Communication Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, interact well with multiple departments as required
  • Able to work with little supervision
  • Excellent reading, writing, and oral communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English. Other languages a plus.
