Job summary

Palmer Johnson is seeking a hands-on Heavy Equipment Technician in Burnaby, BC. The role focuses on teardown, inspection, assembly and testing of off-highway components, with emphasis on powertrain and related systems. We value safety, quality workmanship, and customer-focused problem solving.

You’ll work on heavy-duty equipment, participate in OEM training, and contribute to a team that prides itself on practical, no-nonsense culture. A background in diesel or automotive fields is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with heavy equipment, preferably on powertrain components.
• Certification in diesel or automotive fields preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting, basic hydraulic/electrical knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Teardown, inspection, assembly and testing of off-highway components including marine gears, powershift transmissions, torque converters, planetary axles, transfer cases and industrial power take-offs.
• Build and maintain relationships with service and remanufacturing customers and vendors by identifying and solving component malfunctions.
• Perform diagnosis, repair, reconditioning and preparation of equipment in-house and in the field.

What You'll Do

The Service Technician is responsible for working on teardown, inspection, assembly and testing of off-highway components including marine gears, powershift transmissions, torque converters, planetary axles, transfer cases and industrial power take-offs, as well as working on heavy-duty off-highway equipment. The Service Technician is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with service and re-manufacturing customers and vendors by identifying and providing solutions to component malfunctions and failures through the inspection, diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, and preparation of equipment (unit) in a satisfactory and timely fashion, both in-house and in the field.

Are You the Right Fit?

• Do you have 2+ years of experience working with heavy equipment?
• Have you previously worked on powertrain components (heavy-duty or automotive)?
• Do you have certification in diesel or automotive (preferred but not required)?
• Do you have strong mechanical aptitude and are skilled in troubleshooting, failure analysis, and basic hydraulic/electrical principles?
• Are you able to work independently with minimal or no guidance?
• Are you able to read assembly manuals, drawings, and schematics?
• Do you have a valid driver's license?
• Are you in good physical condition (the ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for 8 consecutive hours)?
• Do you have the ability to communicate well with customers and have a strong sense of urgency?

We provide ongoing OEM factory training on specific product lines and technicians are encouraged to attend other training programs that will improve their job skills.
