Job Title: Heavy Equipment Technician
Location: Northwest Territories
Base Rate:$ 62.50/hr.
OT: 4 hours daily paid out at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.

Flights Paid: Fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools and Truck Provided: Yes
Travel Time: Paid up to 8 hours at each end of your set

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 100 employees and a fleet of over 30 fully tooled service trucks, taking care of customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We are looking for self-starters who are career-minded, ready, and willing to get the job done in a safe, positive manner, and must be able to work professionally with co-workers and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various types and brands of heavy mining equipment.
- Utilize computerized and other testing equipment to determine repairs and create detailed service reports.
- Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts.
- Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
- Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and complete preventative maintenance requirements.
- Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance.
- Make recommendations regarding repairs and methods for improvement.
Requirements:
- Must not want to work as a subcontractor; we are not offering this at this time.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience working in the field out of a service truck.
- Must have experience working on mining equipment.
- Machine brands preferably worked on are Hitachi, CAT, John Deere, and Komatsu.
- Must be a Journeyman Heavy Duty Off-Road Technician.
- Red Seal needed if not licensed in B.C.
- Solid experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting.
All Successful Candidates Must:
- Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Pass a Criminal Record check.
- Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
- Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
- Be able to lift 50 lbs.. comfortably.
- Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering sub-contractor opportunities at this time).
