Job summary

Interpro Recycling seeks an experienced yard operator to load/unload ferrous materials using heavy equipment and to coordinate with scale personnel for accurate loads. You will maintain clear logs and practice safe, efficient yard operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma, two years of heavy equipment experience, and a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of ferrous metals is a plus, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years of experience operating heavy equipment in the last three years.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of ferrous metals is an asset.
  • Customer focus and professional handling of purchases.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment (loaders, cranes, grapples) to load/unload ferrous material.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and fluid checks on equipment.
  • Load trucks with correct weights and coordinate with scale personnel.
  • Unload transports and clean trailers; stockpile/sort metals.
  • Use radios to coordinate tasks with yard and scale staff.
  • Maintain logs and records daily/weekly/monthly.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment to safely and efficiently load and unload ferrous materials. Collaborate with the scale operator and office staff to ensure a smooth unloading process for customers’ materials while maintaining a steady flow of traffic in and out of the yard, helping to minimize congestion.

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to, loaders, cranes, grapple cranes, shears, and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operations

  • Perform preventative maintenance as required, including checking all fluids to ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained

  • Loads trucks accurately (proper weights), safely, and efficiently, and communicates via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may come up

  • Unload transports with ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, and clean (sweep) trailers of excess material

  • Stockpile/sort metals and place them in the designated areas

  • Use hand-held mobile radio devices to coordinate tasks and resources with yard and scale personnel effectively

  • Maintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly, and monthly, and/or as required by supervision

Requirements
  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent

  • Must have a minimum of two (2) consecutive years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment, within the last three (3) years

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Knowledge and understanding of ferrous metals and classifications are considered an asset

  • Customer focus: takes responsibility for developing excellent customer service, making sure that all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiously

  • Communication Skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and/or via mobile radio devices

  • Team Player: establishes trust with team members, stating clear expectations, recognizes group morale, and acts to protect and/or build as required

  • Self‑motivated: initiates and takes action before being required to do so. Strong work ethic: uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around him is working safely

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Must have reliable transportation as the work site is not accessible by city transit
