Job summary

Oceanex Inc. is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our St. John’s Terminal. You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot repairs, and modify equipment to keep ground support operations safe and efficient.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will inspect equipment, order parts, and work under local regulations to ensure fleet reliability. Apprenticeship graduates with licences are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 3–5-year apprenticeship program.
  • Applicable licences or vocational training.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet and ground support equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, disassemble equipment, and implement repairs.
  • Prepare parts lists for procurement and coordinate with the Clerk.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure compliance with specs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and comply with laws and standards.

Job description

We arecurrently searching for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our St. John’sTerminal. Reporting to the MaintenanceManager, he/she is responsible to provide maintenance to ground equipment whichrequires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting repairs and/or modifications.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Repairs, modifies and performs preventativemaintenance inspections; troubleshoots fleet and ground support equipment;
  • Checks equipment for proper performance andinspects equipment to detect faults and malfunctions;
  • Diagnoses source of trouble, disassemblesequipment and performs necessary adjustments and repairs to ensure fleet andequipment are maintained in a safe, reliable and cost effective manner;
  • Prepares parts and supplies list for the Clerkto order as required to repair equipment;
  • Assumes primary responsibility for completion ofproject work and reliability of work performed (goods for parts);
  • Adjusts equipment and repairs or replacesdefective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools. Maintains aclean and safe work area and is responsible for shop equipment in accordance withlocal laws and corporate standards;
  • Tests repaired equipment for proper performanceand to ensure that work meets operations' specifications. Cleans, lubricatesand performs other routine maintenance work on equipment;
  • Performs field work and other duties asassigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a 3–5-year apprenticeship program;
  • Applicable licences or vocational training;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in vehiclemaintenance.
Skills
  • Working knowledge of the utilization andoperation of all automotive equipment and testing equipment, gauges and toolsnormally associated with the troubleshooting and repair of gasoline, diesel andpropane automotive equipment;
  • Possession of a complete set of hand toolsincluding metric sizes;
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision forextended periods of time;
  • Lift and makeover heavy vehicle components up to50 lbs.
