Job summary

Finning is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team supporting a mining client in Nunavut. You will troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Caterpillar equipment to keep operations moving and minimize downtime, working across a range of heavy machines in remote northern conditions.

Applicants should have Interprovincial Red Seal certification, 5+ years of field experience, and strong knowledge of Electrical, Hydraulic and Emissions systems.

Qualifications

• Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Certification.
• 5+ years troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment.
• Clean 5-year drivers abstract.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and emissions systems.
• Engine or component rebuilding experience is a plus.
• Transmission or hydraulic testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Caterpillar mining equipment.
• Respond to customer needs promptly to ensure value for work performed.
• Identify faults with computerized testing equipment to determine repair scope.
• Support on-site safety requirements.
• Maintain Finning customer service commitment.

Job Description:

As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will troubleshoot, diagnose and repair a wide range of Caterpillar equipment, leveraging your technical knowledge to build trust and solve challenges – keeping equipment moving and minimizing downtime. Your work will include:

• Trouble shoot, repair and maintain mining equipment
• Respond to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
• Providing support with reference to on-site safety requirements
• Maintain Finning Customer Service Commitment

Specific Skills & Experience

• Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Certification
• 5+ years experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing maintenance on the following (but not limited to) equipment: D6‑D8 Dozers, Track‑Hoes, Articulated Rock Trucks, 775‑777 Haul Trucks, Graders, Generators, Loaders, Drills & Shovels
• Clean Drivers’ Abstract (5 yr)
• Strong experience in Electrical, Hydraulic and Emissions systems
• Engine and/or component rebuilding experience would be beneficial
• Transmission or Hydraulic testing experience

Important Details:

• 12 Hours per Day
• 21 x 21 Continuous Day Shift / Night Shift Rotation (21 Days/21 Off/21 Nights)
• Travel Assistance to get to marshalling point (tax free)
• Up to $1,200 per rotation (to cover associated costs of getting to marshalling point)
• Customer flights provided from Edmonton or Yellowknife
• Customer Camp provided
