Job summary

GFL Environmental in Victoria, BC is seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our fleet maintenance team. The successful candidate will ensure trucks and motorized equipment are up and running through rebuilding, repair, and preventive maintenance.

Applicants must be a Red Seal/Certified Mechanic with at least 1+ year of relevant experience, and be able to lift up to 100 lbs. A technical diploma is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical diploma desired.
• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• Safety-sensitive functions per company standards.
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain records.
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment as needed.
• Lift up to 100 lbs; kneel, crawl, climb as required.

Responsibilities

What's required:

Mechanics must have:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired
• 1+ year experience as a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic
• Relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards
• Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records
• Willingness to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform job
• Exert physical effort including pushing, pulling, bending and lifting items up to 100 lbs.
• Use fine motor coordination with arm, hand, finger and leg dexterity
• Ability to kneel, crawl and climb
