Job summary

ANDRITZ AG in Windsor, ON is seeking a Heat Treat Operator to manage the heat treatment of metal components. You will set up and operate furnaces, monitor processes, and ensure parts meet hardness and quality specifications.

The role requires at least 2 years of shop experience, operation of heat-treat furnaces and induction equipment, and strong safety discipline. The position is on-site at Windsor with regular shift work and opportunities to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in a shop environment.
  • Experience operating lift trucks, cranes, and other mobile equipment.
  • Experience operating heat-treating furnaces and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to company safety protocols and procedures.
  • Set up and operate various computer-controlled furnaces to heat treat steel to proper hardness.
  • Operate heat treating furnaces, induction heating equipment, and other machinery according to specifications.
  • Monitor equipment performance, adjusting settings and parameters to ensure proper operation.
  • Set up and adjust machine controls according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Load and unload parts into and from furnaces or other equipment.
  • Proof test all programs, make corrections, perform shop floor programming as necessary, and document any changes.
  • Run cleaning cycles on parts in washer when required.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections as required.
  • Inspect parts before and after heat treatment to ensure they meet required specifications and standards.
  • Perform hardness testing, microstructure analysis, and other quality control checks as required.
  • Use various types of precision measuring instruments to ensure required hardness levels are achieved.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of heat treatment processes and results.
  • Adhere to and actively promote the ANDRITZ 8 Life-Saving Rules in all work activities.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and orderly work area in compliance with 5S standards.

The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for the heat treatment process of metal and alloy parts to alter their physical and mechanical properties, such as hardness, strength, toughness, and ductility. The operator ensures that parts meet specific standards and specifications by carefully controlling the heating and cooling processes.

What You Will Be Doing

Here’s an overview of your responsibilities and how you can leverage your expertise:

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of heat treating equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain all aspects of furnaces and equipment associated with processing within capabilities and scope.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or required repairs to maintenance personnel.
  • Continuously improve profitability through enhancing safety, quality, reducing manufacturing costs, reducing lead times, and working as a team member.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance heat treating processes and efficiency.
  • Maintain open communication and suggest improvements to supervision, planning, programming, and co-workers.
  • Assist with the training of new employees as required, sharing knowledge and best practices to support their development and the team’s success.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and new technologies in heat treatment.
  • Adhere to and actively promote the ANDRITZ 8 Life-Saving Rules in all work activities.

What We're Looking For

Education, Licenses, & Certifications:

  • High school diploma required.

Experience:

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a fabrication/shop environment; frequently bend, reach, crouch, climb, twist, and move around equipment, workstations, and production areas.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate controls, tools, measuring instruments, and computerized equipment; requires visual acuity to inspect parts, read specifications, monitor equipment, and identify defects or safety concerns, as well as sufficient hearing to communicate and respond to workplace alarms or signals.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, parts, tools, and equipment up to 50 lbs.; use appropriate lifting techniques and material-handling equipment such as lift trucks, cranes, hoists, and carts when required.
  • Environmental Factors: Work is performed in a fabrication/shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, fumes, moving machinery, heavy equipment, and varying temperatures; required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all safety procedures.
