Qualifications

About the Role

The H&S Manager develops H&S programs for the division, ensuring regulatory compliance as well as developing procedures, training, and committees to support the same. The H&S Manager establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, environmentally sound, and healthy work environment.

Your Responsibilities

Tasks that this position controls or is responsible for:

  • Implements and maintains all Health & Safety policies and procedures as per the OH&S and other relevant Federal, Provincial, or internal requirements.
  • Champions H&S, Environmental, Ergonomics Assessments, Inspections, and Audits, and implements resulting Action Plans.
  • Manages HWIN (Waste Manifests, account upkeep with the Ministry, etc.), NPRI, TRA, ECA applications/upkeep, including all legal aspects & reporting.
  • Handles WSIB claims, lost time statistics, and timely submission of Form 7, applications for SIEF, addressing objections, and follow-up.
  • Conducts studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential hazards and recommends corrective or preventative measures.
  • Active member of Our Safety Group, ensuring compliance with WSIB Workwell Audit, practices, and communication of Best Practices.
  • Coordinates with employees to manage the Modified Work Program and Disability Claims, facilitating employee return to work and handling related applications and follow-ups.
  • Serves as the point of contact for Security, including alarm contact and investigative follow-up.
  • Arranges and participates in H&S / Ergonomics Meetings, records meeting minutes, and conducts workplace inspections.
  • Ensures completion of Workplace Inspections across departments.
  • Monitors contracts for employee PPE, including uniforms, safety glasses, and earplugs.
  • Delivers in-house Safety, Environment, and Ergonomic training.
  • Maintains and updates online SDS, ensuring compliance and easy access.
  • Demonstrates Continuous Improvement by investigating and recommending Best Practices in Ergonomics, Safety, and Environment.
  • Enforces safe working conditions proactively and sets an example for employees.
  • Maintains safety/environment records, reports, and Action Plans as per audit and inspection requirements.
  • Updates safety/environment training matrices and notifies employees of required courses.
  • Provides cross-functional training within Human Resources.

Other Tasks:

  • Adheres to Our client Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
  • Uses MBCMs Escalation Process effectively.
  • Ensures compliance with IATF customer requirements.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions.
  • Follows established rules, procedures, and policies.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by following safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Who we are looking for

Core Competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of Federal / Provincial Regulations, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, CSA Standards, Environmental Standards, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Workers’ Compensation Standards Act.
  • Knowledge of reporting obligations for H&S, Environment, Ergonomics, WSIB.
  • Effective time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, source and vet vendors.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate, and influence workplace cultural and behavioral change.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and situational leadership skills.

Education / Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive health & safety experience in manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficient in Excel, Word, and databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of Industrial Ergonomics is a plus.
