Health & Safety Assurance Specialist, Calgary, AB
In your role as Health & Safety Assurance Specialist, you will provide expert support to ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of MEG’s health & safety programs. Based at the corporate office, this role supports strategic planning and operational execution by leading audits, analyzing HSE performance, and facilitating compliance with standards and regulations. You will collaborate closely with business units, operations teams, and senior leadership to strengthen safety culture and risk management practices.
Your Day-to-day Will Include
- Strategic Planning:
- Analyze safety performance data, identify trends, and provide insights for risk mitigation and improvement.
- Develop and review HSE policies, standards, and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements (e.g., OHS, Energy Safety Canada).
- Participate in planning and executing corporate HSE assurance programs, OEMS assessments, and management reviews.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Monitor adherence to Alberta OHS regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
- Assist in preparing submissions and documentation for audits and certifications.
- Audits & Inspections:
- Conduct internal audits and safety inspections, identify areas for improvement, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Risk Management:
- Support risk assessments and hazard identification to promote proactive safety measures.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare reports on safety performance, audit findings, and compliance status.
- Maintain accurate safety assurance records.
- Training & Awareness:
- Assist in developing and delivering safety training to enhance awareness and understanding.
- Support site-level HSE teams to align with corporate standards.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Work with operational teams on safety improvement initiatives.
- Monitor industry best practices and regulatory changes for updates.
- Incident Investigation Support:
- Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and internal teams to foster safety culture.
- Track and report HSE metrics and KPIs to stakeholders, ensuring data accuracy.
What You Will Bring To MEG
- Diploma or Bachelor's in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health & Safety Officer (CHSO), or similar preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a health & safety role, preferably in oil & gas or energy sectors.
- Experience with audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS regulations and standards (CSA Z1000, ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset and experience with HSE data systems.
- Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings clearly.
- Commitment to safety and caring for others.
- Collaborative workstyle valuing team achievement.
- Knowledge of management systems and loss prevention systems like OEMS.
- Positive attitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to occasionally travel to Christina Lake facilities near Conklin, AB, including flying from Calgary and staying in on-site camp facilities.
