Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager (CAN) will be a role model for safety working at our state-of-the-art facility in Acheson, AB. As a Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager, you will have a great opportunity to make a difference by working closely with production and management, coaching and mentoring to embed a strong safety culture throughout our facility. Responsibilities include training employees in safety management best practices and providing day-to-day guidance and advice.

What a typical day looks like

  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s policies, practices, and procedures related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment
  • Provide leadership and vision for future growth and development by helping Operations Leadership ensure employees are informed, aligned, and accountable.
  • Facilitate the smooth operation of the Occupational Joint Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Committee.
  • Support HSE teams in executing their roles and responsibilities
  • Identify coaching opportunities throughout the facility, act as an HSE mentor, and actively participate in improving safety culture with leadership and staff
  • Provide technical expertise and support for implementing and maintaining HSE programs/systems (e.g., Hazard Identification, Behavior-based Observations, Hazard Assessments, Inspections, Near Miss Reporting, Incident Investigation)
  • Partner with HSE professionals to develop and improve manuals, policies, and procedures
  • Develop and deliver safety training materials
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation Process
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and documentation
  • Collaborate with management to address safety gaps
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring root causes and corrective actions are identified and implemented
  • Implement Champion Petfoods HSE practices, policies, and plans
  • Communicate legislative changes and ensure compliance with OHSE legislation
  • Provide training, leadership, and organization
  • Assist with onboarding of new employees and contractors
  • Be available for evening or overnight shifts as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you'll bring

  • Preferred certifications: Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), CRST, CRSP
  • 5+ years of safety leadership experience in manufacturing
