Job description

Forbes Bros Ltd. is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Lead to support our team on the St. Clair Transmission line project based out of St. Clair, ON.

The HSE Lead will work onsite at the St. Clair project and provide operational leadership to the HSE function during projects and ensures the implementation of Forbes health and safety programs are executed consistently. The successful candidate will ensure consistent compliance with Forbes programs and processes while fostering a culture of safety excellence across the project. This position requires the individual to be on site Monday - Friday with flexibility to accommodate project hours and site schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lives Forbes Bros. value of WE WORK SAFE & never compromising on safety in all aspects of our everyday
  • Assist with staffing for and oversee project safety advisors and specialists
  • Build an environment that supports cooperation and cohesiveness among the project team and with other shared services such as fleet and environment, working within the same scope
  • Ensure Forbes programs and processes are implemented consistently
  • Collaborate with MP and HSE leadership to create integrated and specific safety plans which address the risk for each project
  • Ensure safety related training is delivered, qualifications and certifications are tracked and current
  • Provide MP leaders with real time trend data to drive a focus on any safety gaps inclusive of but not limited to: analysis of inspections, observations and other trend data to develop a weekly report
  • Analyze incident causation and initiate action to address performance issues related to maintaining safe and healthy worksites.
  • Responsible for overseeing effective case management of injuries or property damage
  • Participating in operations led incident investigations and high level of expertise in investigation methodology, determining corrective actions and ensuring follow-up
  • Represent the safety organization during company meetings
  • Create and sustain professional relationships with customer HSE professionals
  • Audit H&S processes for application and consistency in the field
  • Participate in corporate wide initiatives and external committees to help identify, develop and implement best practices
  • Develop written communications regarding lessons learned to be shared corporately
  • Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned

What We Are Looking For:

  • 3+ years of experience managing a team at the project level in an HSE Management or Related role(s), is required. Experience in transmission powerlines is preferred.
  • NCSO certification is required
  • Preference given to candidates who have successfully completed a Diploma or Degree in the field of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).
  • Demonstrated competency related to equipment operations, safety at heights, grounding and bonding, crane operations and lifting and rigging
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certifications
  • Working knowledge of Provincial or State/Federal OH&S regulations
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to lead, build consensus, organize, active listener, keen sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Ability to execute strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Able and willing to present a current valid Driver's License and an acceptable five (5) year drivers abstract
  • Able and willing to frequently travel to field/on-site with work hour flexibility to accommodate project/site schedule
