Qualifications

What is the Opportunity?

Aecon holds a Master Construction Contract with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) for completing projects at their Chalk River, Ontario site. This is a dynamic growth opportunity in a fast-paced environment working with an exciting client and site that is rich in history, as it was the location of the first nuclear reactor in Canada. Reporting to the EHS Manager the EHS Advisor is a highly motivated self starter who will assist in various areas of the CNL project, depending on business requirements.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Work directly with construction and project management to support accountability in relation to EHS.
  • Developing & maintaining schedule and quality oversight of specific conventional safety and environmental management plans, procedures and committees including; inspections, audits, observation and coaching, Worker TradesCommittee and JHSC.
  • Coordinate and communicate event management and project needs where required.
  • Ensure project safety related problems or issues are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Train project staff in the requirements of conventional safety procedures.
  • Track and report safety-related statistics, manage Return to Work, Modified duties cases at the field level.
  • Ensure that EHS metrics (leading and lagging indicators) are regularly compiled, trended and reviewed with the EHS Director, operational project teams and the OPG Safety Department.
  • Additional detailed requirements as outlined in the Project Specific EHS and related programs
  • Support Human Performance program activities.
  • Assist in development of JSA, High Hazard, Critical Lifting and Handling forms and audit same in the field.

What You Bring To The Team:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Health and Safety within the construction industry.
  • Relevant Post Secondary education or equivalent experience in the H&S field.
  • A designation such as CRSP, CRST, CHSO or Gold Seal is an asset but not a requirement.
  • A leader in Environmental Health and Safety.
  • A Team Player that is adaptable and flexible to a fast paced and ever-changing environment.
  • A self-starter able to perform the duties with little direction required.
  • Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.
  • Background in Training, Education and/or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups is considered an asset.
  • Experience in a Nuclear Generating Station or Nuclear environment is considered an asset.
  • OPG/Bruce Power or other Nuclear Security Clearance would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Emergency Planning and Hot Work Procedures.
