Job summary

Guelph CHC is looking for a Health Promotion Officer for a 9-week contract to support health programs targeting equity-deserving populations. The ideal candidate should exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently while ensuring comfort for clients from various backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Comfort working with marginalized groups in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Possession of a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Support health promotion and social prescribing programs.
  • Facilitate health promotion programs and welcome clients.
  • Collect client socio-demographic data and update records.

Job description

JOB TITLE: Health Promotion Officer

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract 9 weeks

HOURS/WEEK: 30 hours per week

Eligibility requirements

This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Health Promotion and Social Prescribing program support including planning, administration, quality improvement, evaluation and documentation
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate (with volunteers) health promotion programs as needed. Programs may include social/coffee time programs, English conversation practice, sewing program, etc.
  • Welcome clients to the Shelldale clinic
  • Collect client socio-demographic data and update electronic medical records

Required Qualifications:

  • Welcoming and engaging nature
  • Sensitivity to and comfort working with Guelph CHC’s equity-deserving groups in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, asset-based manner
  • Patient, reliable, good judgment and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • Knowledge of and commitment to a high degree of confidentiality is essential
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Research and problem-solving skills
  • Tech savy with digital problem solving skills and experience using various electronic programs and platforms
  • Possession of a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License required, access to a vehicle considered an asset
