Job summary

St. Joseph Health System is seeking a Health Information Management professional for part-time, on-site work at Charlton Campus in Hamilton.

The role focuses on chart analysis, indexing, and ensuring data integrity within electronic medical records using Epic and related tools. Responsibilities include handling disclosures, information queries, and coordinating with clinics and staff under strict deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a 2-year Office Administration College Diploma from an accredited school or Health Information Management required.
  • Medical Terminology 1 and 2 required.
  • CHIMA Certification in progress or completed preferred.
  • 1-2 years HIM related experience preferred.
  • Must have experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR)/Clinical Information systems preferably Epic system.
  • Must have experience and skill using MS Office suite - with intermediate skill level for MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Must have intermediate skill for spelling medical spelling and medical terminology.
  • Customer service skills conflict resolution excellent communication skills needed to work with public and internal clients including physicians and registered health professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts chart analysis of system and non-system generated documentation including intake/ processing quality review preparation and indexing of non-system generated and scanned chart documentation in electronic Legal Medical Record (eLMR).
  • Provides routine compliance monitoring and supports policy compliance with applicable acts and hospital bylaws using Epic system workqueues.
  • Provides information regarding Dragon Medical One to end users and escalates issues as needed.
  • Processes requests for disclosure in accordance with PHIPA or SJHH procedures using Epic system modalities.
  • Responds to queries in person by phone mail and electronic communications and assists patients staff and the public with HIM services.
  • Manages inbound/outbound communications related to HIM including fax and electronic communications and supports provider registry updates as appropriate.
  • All other duties as assigned.
