Job summary

Alterra Mountain Company is seeking a Head Technician, Repair Shop at Blue Mountain Resort in Ontario. The role leads a team of Repair Technicians, oversees daily shop operations, and ensures equipment safety, tuning, and guest readiness.

You will coordinate with management and Montana and Wintersteiger teams to maintain high-performance gear. The position requires supervisory experience, repair shop knowledge, and excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • 2 years experience in a ski/snowboard repair shop preferred.
  • Previous repair shop, ski/snowboard tuning, or rental operations experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of ski and snowboard equipment, maintenance procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Achievement of 80% or higher on binding manufacturer certification exams.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Customer service oriented in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory levels, track retired equipment, and support future purchasing recommendations.
  • Oversee incidents and ensure proper documentation and risk management procedures.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members, including repair procedures and safe operation.
  • Maintain records related to repairs, maintenance, inventory, and requirements.
  • Promote a positive team culture and recognize performance.

Hourly Rate: $23.55/hour

Full-time Hours: 4-5 shift a week

The Head Technician, Repair Shop oversees the daily operations of the Repair Shop while leading a team of Repair Technicians responsible for servicing and maintaining rental equipment. This role ensures the rental fleet is maintained to the highest standards of safety, performance, and presentation while supporting exceptional guest experiences. Working closely with the Assistant Manager, the Head Technician provides day-to-day leadership, employee coaching, inventory oversight, and operational support to ensure the efficient operation of the Repair Shop. The Head Technician will be the s ubject expert when it comes to the Montana Tuning Robot, as well as other equipment used in the repair shop. Will oversee it's daily functions, maintenance schedule and correspondence with Montana and Wintersteigher team/ representatives at the direction of department leadership.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
  • Lead and support the daily operations of the Repair Shop, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality equipment service standards.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and coach Repair Technicians to promote safe work practices, productivity, and exceptional guest service.
  • Assist management with operational planning, staff development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Repair Shop.
  • Monitor rental fleet condition and maintenance schedules to ensure equipment is safe, properly tuned, and guest-ready.
  • Manage inventory levels, track retired equipment, and support equipment purchasing recommendations for future seasons.
  • Oversee equipment involved in incidents and ensure all required documentation and risk management procedures are completed accurately.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members, including repair procedures, equipment handling, and safe machine operation.
  • Maintain accurate records related to repairs, maintenance, inventory, and operational requirements.
  • Promote a positive team culture by motivating staff, recognizing performance, and supporting department objectives.
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
  • 1-2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • 2 years experience in a ski/snowboard repair shop preferred
  • Previous repair shop, ski and snowboard tuning, or rental operations experience required.
