Job summary

Tailscale is seeking a strategic, experienced Head of Communications to lead and scale our global communications function. This leader will shape how the company is understood, elevate visibility in the media, and build the communications engine needed to support our growth.

Reporting to the SVP of Marketing, you will own product and corporate communications, media relations, internal communications, crisis communications, and executive storytelling across the leadership.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in public relations or corporate communications.
• Proven earned media coverage track record.
• Deep product communications expertise.
• Experience hiring and developing communications professionals.
• Exceptional writing and editorial judgment.
• Experience advising senior executives in high-stakes situations.
• Strong strategic judgment and ability to build scalable processes.
• Curiosity about using AI to support operations while preserving human judgment.
• Hands-on, creative leader who thrives in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute global communications strategy, strengthening brand leadership.
• Lead product and technology communications, translating innovations into compelling narratives for media coverage.
• Build relationships with top-tier journalists in business, tech, cybersecurity, and AI.
• Expand presence across podcasts, newsletters, creators, and technical communities.
• Own corporate communications for major milestones, partnerships, funding, and business developments.
• Develop international communications programs, including regional media relations.
• Oversee internal communications with People and leadership on messaging and engagement.
• Lead crisis communications and protect customer trust and company reputation.
