Job summary

Tailscale, a remote-first, global security and connectivity platform, seeks a Head of Communications to scale its global communications function and elevate market visibility.

Reporting to the SVP of Marketing, this leader will own product and corporate communications, media strategy, internal communications, crisis communications, awards applications, international comms and executive messaging across the leadership team outside the CEO. You will build a scalable team as the company grows.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in public relations, product communications, or corporate communications.
• Proven track record of earned media coverage and building strong journalist relationships.
• Deep product communications expertise and ability to translate complex innovations into compelling stories.
• Experience hiring, managing, and developing communications professionals and overseeing agency partners.
• Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial judgment across external, executive, and internal communications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute global communications strategy to strengthen brand awareness and market leadership.
• Lead product and technology communications, translate innovations and launches into compelling narratives for media coverage.
• Build relationships with top-tier journalists and expand share of voice across media.
• Expand presence in emerging media channels including podcasts, newsletters, creators, and technical communities.
• Own corporate communications for milestones, partnerships, funding, and business developments.
• Develop international communications programs and regional media relations.
• Create executive communications and thought leadership programs for leadership beyond the CEO.
• Oversee internal communications in collaboration with People and leadership.
• Lead crisis communications with cross‑functional partners to protect trust and reputation.
• Oversee awards/recognition strategy and agency partnerships.
