Job summary

Tailscale seeks a strategic Head of Communications to lead and scale our global communications function. This leader shapes how Tailscale is understood, elevates media visibility, and builds a scalable comms engine for growth.

You will oversee product and corporate communications, media strategy, internal comms, crises, awards, and executive engagement. You will initially be hands-on while building a small team and partnering with the CEO and policy comms lead to ensure consistent narratives

Qualifications

• 10+ years in public relations, product communications, or corporate communications.
• Proven track record of earned media coverage and media relationships.
• Deep product communications expertise translating complex tech into clear stories.
• Experience hiring, managing, and developing communications professionals.
• Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial judgment.
• Experience advising senior executives in high-stakes communications.
• Strategic judgment with scalable processes and measurable impact.
• Curiosity about using AI to augment but not replace human judgment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute global communications strategy to build brand awareness and leadership.
• Lead product and technology communications, translating launches and customer stories into coverage.
• Cultivate relationships with top-tier journalists and expand media opportunities.
• Expand presence across emerging media channels, podcasts, creators, and tech communities.
• Oversee corporate communications for milestones, partnerships, and funding announcements.
• Scale international comms programs with regional media relations and agencies.
• Develop executive thought leadership and speaking opportunities for leadership.
