Application Engineer Department Manager (AED) – Electrical and Pneumatics

Reports to: Head of Technical Solutions NAM

Summary: The AED Manager directly interfaces with the sales teams and the customer in order to solve any technical product issues. This position will be responsible for all pre‑sales, integration and post‑sales support for the full line of Festo applications and products and for managing the time and efforts of the application engineer specialists to meet customer demands.

Responsibilities:

• Manages a team of AED Specialists to provide support to Festo’s sales team and customers.
• Assembles customer application requirements from the Sales Representatives or directly from customer interaction
• Manages the timely completions of fully engineered customer application solutions, such as servo solution sizing, define valve terminals, advise customers of appropriate products for required application, cylinder and valve sizing as well as required electrical controls solutions.
• Provides technical training to the Sales Representatives and arranges knowledge transfer to the rest of the AED Team for the specific products/applications of the relevant industry segment.
• Provides onsite product integration services to our customers, for the full line of Festo applications and products
  Identifies and standardizes applications and functional solutions and develops application descriptions to fulfil the customer’s needs
• Maintains team resources to meet the goal of a 90% response rate to customer service requests within a 24-hour period
• Leads the discussion in machine efficiency optimization and defines related Festo products and concepts to customers
• Assist AED team in meeting their targets by sharing the workload of active projects and interfacing with the sales team to uncover hidden opportunities relating to the customer’s overall requirements (product and service support)
• Schedule the AED team resources appropriately, in order to fulfil the needs of the Festo sales representatives and management (relating to customer sales visits, customer demos and customer related service requirements)
• Mentoring team in professional behaviour and provides ongoing support for the well‑being of the AED team
• Conduct in-depth research on various applications and develop a viable business plan to support their implementation
• Directly interface with the customer in order to solve any electrically related technical product issues.
• Partners with our Customer Solutions team to design and build customized automated solutions to meet customer specific application requirements
  Additional work hours in excess of normal business hours may be necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities

Minimum Requirements:

• Post‑secondary education with a focus on automation (Electrical or Pneumatic)
• A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
• Possesses strong computer hardware and software experience - AutoCad 2D and PLC programming skills (preferably Rockwell / Siemens)
• Highly attentive to detail and fact‑finding to ensure accuracy
• Extremely well organized and resourceful with the ability to prioritize urgent tasks
• Work well under pressure and through ambiguity with problem solving mindset
• Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to mediate between the needs of multiple parties to develop best solutions to conflicts as they arise
• Excellent ability leading and motivating a highly technical team
• Travel within North America, occasionally with short notice.
• Possesses a positive, team player attitude
