Overview

Head Housekeeper opportunity in Canada, we can only consider candidates with a Canadian Passport who currently reside in the Toronto area

An established global client of Greycoat Lumleys seeks a Head Housekeeper/House Manager in Toronto, Canada. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, laundry, wardrobe and organization of a private residence. This role includes hands-on work and overseeing household staff, managing cleaning schedules, maintaining household inventory, and ensuring the overall comfort and satisfaction of the family members. The Head Housekeeper/House Manager will also be expected to assist with special events and manage household logistics, oversee vendors and contractors while renovations or repairs to the house are being made.

This residence is not the principal’s main residence; flexibility is required when family is visiting, ensuring they are supported and cared for during the entire stay.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the household is organized and well-maintained, including managing storage areas and pantry organization, and ensuring the smooth operations of household systems. Develop and implement daily, weekly, and seasonal cleaning schedules for the entire residence, ensuring all areas are maintained to the highest standards. Hands-on with cleaning, laundry, wardrobe, general maintenance, and training of housekeepers. Maintain an inventory of household supplies, including cleaning products, linens, and other essentials.
  • Run errands; food shopping; driving licenses is essential.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and service providers, ensuring high-quality products and services.
  • Handle administrative tasks.
  • Personal Assistance & Support: Work closely with the family’s Senior Private PA on personal errands, managing select correspondence, and assisting with household-related event coordination and planning.
  • Wardrobe & Valet Management: Manage and maintain family wardrobes, including organisation, packing/unpacking for travel, liaising with dry cleaners and tailors, and ensuring garments are impeccably cared for.
  • Household Operations & Maintenance Oversight: Proactively manage all household inventories, supplies, and stock levels. Coordinate and oversee external contractors, vendors, and service providers for maintenance and repairs, ensuring efficient and timely completion of tasks. Identify, report and organize maintenance or repair needs within the household.
  • Discretion & Confidentiality: Uphold the utmost level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • Proven experience in a similar Head Housekeeper/Household Manager role within a large, high-end private residence.
  • Live in the Toronto Area, with a valid Canadian passport / working visa.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Extensive hands-on housekeeping expertise and a genuine willingness to be actively involved in daily tasks.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing and motivating other household staff.
  • Highly organised and proactive, with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate needs.
  • Tech-savvy and able to quickly adapt to smart home systems and other household technologies.
  • Flexible and adaptable to the fluid demands of a private family residence.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A discreet, trustworthy, and calm temperament.
  • Pet-friendly.
Benefits
  • Family in residence for a total of 2-3 months per year.
  • Hours will be intense when in residence, although typically Monday to Friday when not in residence.
