Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Ottawa is seeking chemical technicians to support our Stevenage liquid waste processing facility.

You will prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport, receive waste, take samples for lab analysis, and ensure safe, timely processing. The role requires English proficiency, weekend availability, a chemistry-related degree, familiarity with waste regulations, and the ability to work outdoors in all seasons.

Qualifications

Must read, write, and communicate in English.
Degree or diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or equivalent.
Familiarity with waste regulations is an asset.
Previous hazardous/non-hazardous waste experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

Prepare shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
Take samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis.
Ensure waste is processed safely and timely.
Ensure incoming waste conforms with acceptance protocol.
Complete paperwork accurately and submit it.
Perform job hazard risk assessments.
Provide superior customer service.
Notify supervisor of defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents, or accidents.
Attend Household Hazardous Waste collection events and prepare necessary waste manifest documents for transport back to Stevenage facility.
Other tasks as required.
