Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Ottawa, Canada, seeks a hardware verification engineer to research, design, develop and test COTS or custom computing hardware and electrical components. You will plan and coordinate project documentation, prepare specifications, evaluate vendors and analyze test reports to meet contract requirements.

The role requires hands-on debugging, knowledge of MIL-STD-461G and MIL-STD-810, and system integration across servers and networking hardware.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience writing formal qualification procedures that have passed government or prime-contractor reviews.
  • Strong background in debugging and troubleshooting of hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of formal Test Plans and Test Procedures tailored to MIL-STD requirements.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for debugging during functional/qualification tests using EMI/EMC equipment.
  • Design and build custom test fixtures and automated test environments to validate naval system requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Test Plan & Procedure Authoring: Lead the creation of formal Test Plans and Test Procedures. You will be responsible for interpreting MIL-STD-461G and MIL-STD-810 requirements and tailoring them into actionable, step-by-step test steps.
  • Hardware Debugging & Root Cause Analysis: Act as the primary technical resource for troubleshooting failures during functional and qualification testing. You will utilize spectrum analyzers and probes to identify EMI issues (461G) and analyze mechanical/thermal failures (810) at the both the component and system level.
  • Functional Test Architecture: Design and build custom test fixtures, breakout boxes, and automated test environments (ATE) to validate complex naval system requirements before they hit the qualification lab.
Basic Qualifications
  • Technical Writing: Proven experience writing formal qualification procedures that have successfully passed government or prime-contractor review.
  • Debugging: Strong background in debugging and troubleshooting
  • Standards Mastery: Good understanding of the specific test setups for MIL-STD-461G (all methods) and MIL-STD-810 (Climatic & Dynamic).
  • System integration: Working experience with integrating various system components (Servers, network switches, etc.)
Desired Skills
  • Possesses a bachelor’s in engineering or related area of study with minimum 5 years of professional experience in field, or minimum 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, EMI Receivers, Oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, LabVIEW, or similar) to automate functional data collection.
  • Proficiency with troubleshooting computer hardware, BIOS, OS issues (proficiency with Linux OS is considered a major asset)
