Reports To: Manager, Group Underwriting

In the role of Group Underwriter, you will work with the Group Underwriting team to ensure Medavie Blue Cross achieves its financial targets on the group health, life, and disability income lines of business.

Key Responsibilities

1. Establish renewal pricing, including analysis of experience/trends to justify renewal reasons and recommend pricing adjustments. Respond to client inquiries regarding pricing and experience.
2. Set rates for new group business and respond to financial questions within specifications.
3. Prepare financial statements for ASO and Retention groups according to financial agreements.
4. Draft and update financial agreements.
5. Ensure underwriting targets are met for growth and profitability.
6. Develop and maintain relationships with clients and producers.
7. Collaborate with internal sales staff, Case Management, Group Admin, and external agents/brokers/consultants, as well as policyholders.

Qualifications

• Education: Post-secondary education
• Work Experience: Minimum of two years in Group Underwriting
• Computer Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
• Language Skills: Bilingualism in French and English is an asset
• Other Qualifications: Ability to work in a team, strong communication skills, self-directed, high accountability, excellent judgment, strong analytical skills with attention to detail, effective time management, and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
