Job summary

Air Canada is seeking a permanent full-time Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic in Toronto, onsite. Responsibilities include maintenance of diverse airport equipment and reading schematics for troubleshooting, using diagnostic tools, and collaborating in a high-stress, customer-forward setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma, provincial trade license endorsements, and at least one year in the trade, with a pre-employment exam and medical clearance as part of the process.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid provincial license/endorsement as an Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty, and/or Truck and Coach.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the trade.
  • Must pass the pre-employment qualifying exam.
  • Air Canada medical standards must be met (medical evaluation, drug/alcohol test).
  • Eligible to work in Canada and obtain required permits/clearances.

Air Canada is presently looking for a dynamic individual to fill a permanent full- time position as a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic.

  • Provide safe preventative and repair maintenance to a wide variety of equipment used within airports ground operations in accordance with all applicable regulations and codes
  • Knowledge of drive-trains, diesel and gasoline engines. Working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems, metal fabrication and welding would be an asset.
  • Candidates should be able to read and understand various schematic diagrams for maintenance troubleshooting and be proficient with computers and diagnostic tools.
  • Individuals need to be "team players" with excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain a customer-focused attitude in a demanding, high-stress environment.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma.
  • Must hold a valid provincial license/endorsement as an Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty, and/or Truck and Coach, as recognized by the applicable provincial authority or the Red Seal Program.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the trade.
  • Able to successfully pass the pre-employment qualifying exam.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
  • Employees in this role, conduct safety-critical work and as such, Air Canada medical standards must be met in order to qualify for the role. Candidates will be subject to a medical evaluation, including a drug and alcohol test and are expected to be free of any intoxicating substances.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of interest at the time any offer of employment is made and seeking any required work permits/visas or other authorizations which may be required is the sole responsibility of the candidates applying for this position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearances and additional authorizations. Please refer to the Transport Canada site for more details.
Assets
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal preferred, but not required
  • Advanced Fuel Injection & Diesel Engine Tune-Up certificates/licenses.
  • Air Conditioning and Refrigeration certificates/licenses.
  • Propane Fuel Systems certificates/licenses.
  • Automotive Inspection certificate/licenses.
  • Previous experience maintaining mobile ground power (generators), air conditioners (up to 110 ton), air start units (compressors up to 250 cfm), but will also consider experience in Farm or Heavy Industrial equipment.
  • Current security clearance
