Job summary

Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) is seeking a Greenskeeper at Hylands Golf Club to maintain playing surfaces and related grounds. You will work as part of the grounds maintenance team on a 36-hole course, ensuring greens, tees, fairways, traps and rough are well-kept.

You will also perform planting, pruning and basic landscape work, and help maintain club facilities. This on-site role offers outdoor, hands-on experience with opportunities to grow within a dynamic,

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and some landscaping experience.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license class G or equivalent.
  • Experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance.
  • Experience operating specialized turf care equipment.
  • Competencies include client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain greens, tee boxes, turf on fairways, sand traps and rough.
  • Perform basic horticultural duties such as planting and pruning trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • Assist with landscape construction and related structures; maintain buildings and furniture on the course.
  • Repair and maintain golf course amenities, fences, benches and dividers.
  • Contribute to a safe, clean, and well-manicured golf facility.

THE ROLE

Since its inception, Hylands Golf Club has matured into a top-quality golf facility that offers a full range of services and amenities to its 1200 members and their guests. A true jewel among Canadian Forces golf facilities, Hylands continues to host numerous regional, national and international events. As part of CFMWS, our mandate is to provide affordable golf to our local military personnel and their families.

If you enjoy the outdoors and want to work in a first-class golf course setting with a dynamic team, Hylands Golf Club is the perfect place to work. As an integral part of the grounds maintenance department, as a greenskeeper, you will be trained on different equipment in order to maintain all playing surfaces on a 36 hole golf course. You will maintain greens, tee box areas, turf on fairways, sand traps and rough. You will perform basic horticultural duties such as planting and pruning trees, shrubs and flowers, creating, maintaining flowerbeds, spreading topsoil, laying sod, planting flowers and assist with the construction of a landscape and related structures.

As the greenskeeper, you will also be responsible for maintaining and repairing golf course buildings, structures and accessories such as fences, benches and stakes, removing rocks from fairways and repairing and filling fairway and tee divots. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
Education, Certifications and Licenses

High School diploma AND some years of experience in landscaping

And

Valid Ontario driver's license class G or equivalent

Experience
  • In landscaping or grounds maintenance
  • In operating specialized turf care equipment
Competencies Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Essential / French Essential, Bilingual (English and French) an asset

OTHER INFORMATION

This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.

Perform moderate lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing (i.e. more than 10 lbs/4.5 kg but less than 50 lbs/23 kg

This unionized position is open to all interested parties. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the UFCW local 175 bargaining unit at CFSG Ottawa-Gatineau.

This is a seasonal position with an anticipated term of April to November.
