Job summary

Bartlett is seeking a Grain Origination Specialist to establish long-term customer relationships and develop effective pricing strategies for grain origination. The role involves representing Bartlett at the farm level and planning logistics to meet customer and Bartlett facility needs.

You will target customers, craft solutions, and collaborate with operations and merchandising teams to ensure timely and profitable merchandising and contracting options.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Agriculture, Agri-Business or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Canadian grain industry including marketing, operations, transportation & crop production.
  • Familiarity with futures markets and hedging.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and risk management experience.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced math and computer skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an origination strategy for the territory.
  • Grow the grain business through regular contact with customers via on-farm meetings, calls, and events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Utilize customer relationship management tools effectively.
  • Understand customer grain marketing needs and promote farmer marketing programs.
  • Purchase grain and coordinate with operations for logistics execution.
  • Collect grain samples to assess quality for merchandising programs.
  • Provide timely service, marketing and contracting options to customers.
  • Monitor crop conditions and coordinate with origination and merchandising teams.
  • Adhere to contract and risk management practices and maintain records.
  • Participate in daily forecasting and sales/marketing planning.
  • Monitor customer and competitor activity.
  • Collaborate with regenerative agriculture teams.
  • Adhere to safety policies and enforce them.

The intent of this position is to establish long-term relationships with customers to pursue grain origination. This position will target customers and develop effective pricing strategies and promotions, represent the company at the farm level, and play a key role in planning logistics to meet the needs of customers and Bartlett facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an origination strategy for the territory.
  • Effectively grow the grain business through a targeted approach to customers, maintaining regular contact with customers through on farm meetings, phone calls and other means of communication. Participate in farm shows, networking activities, and complete cold calls.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Effectively utilize customer relationship management tools.
  • Understand customers grain marketing needs and collaborate in developing solutions. Actively promote and establish farmer grain marketing programs.
  • Purchase grain and collaborate with operations and merchandising staff to ensure logistical execution.
  • Collect grain samples from growers to understand quality and facilitate merchandising programs.
  • Provide timely service, marketing options, contracting options and advice to current and potential customers.
  • Monitor crop conditions and communicate effectively with origination and merchandising teams.
  • Comply with contract and risk management practices including but not limited to contract signature and execution. Maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Participate in daily forecasting and strategizing of sales and marketing efforts.
  • Monitor customer and competitor activity.
  • Collaborate with our regenerative ag team in identifying and working with customers.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures and be willing to enforce them with other employees and visitors.
Qualifications
  • Required
  • Successful completion of Certificate in Agriculture, Agri-Business certificate, or equivalent post-secondary education. A combination of education and experience that provides the required level of competency, skills and abilities may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Canadian grain industry including marketing, operations, transportation & crop production.
  • Familiarity with futures markets and hedging.
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiation and risk management.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently to solve problems.
  • Ability to prioritize on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced math and computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work extra hours when required.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office programs.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Preferred
  • Experience with production agriculture is preferred.
  • Familiarity with customer database programs.
