Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking an entry-level Geographic Information Systems Technician I to support the SLCDPU GIS program. Under GIS Staff supervision, you will analyze, develop, and maintain GIS data, layers, shapefiles, and graphics, and assist survey teams with mapping tasks.

You will manage over 300 mobile devices using MDM, coordinate with departments, prepare maps for distribution, and perform data quality checks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with trig/algebra coursework; three years in CAD, GIS, surveying, or data entry. Two years post-high school training may substitute for two years of work experience.
• Ability to operate computers and familiarity with AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
• Valid driver’s license or driving privilege card; willingness to work irregular hours.

Responsibilities

• Collect, maintain, and update the department’s GIS; perform data research and QA of GIS data.
• Create, edit, and manipulate SLCDPU spatial data from CAD, GPS, as-built, maps, or survey notes.
• Perform intermediate GIS analysis to create maps and reports for communication of results.
• Incorporate new infrastructure data into GIS from various sources and ensure data integrity.
• Prepare digital, online, and hard-copy maps for staff, external organizations, and the public.
• Conduct quality control and verify GPS survey data input; support other duties as needed.
