Position Overview

We are seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician / Technologist to assist in geotechnical investigations and field work. The role involves soil and rock logging, support for laboratory testing, quality control, and site inspections, all with a strong emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Assist in scope and costing of geotechnical investigations and field activities
• Compile utility information, initiate BC One Calls, and obtain permits for investigations
• Perform soil and rock logging during investigations
• Describe and classify soil/rock types according to ASTM standards and the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual
• Transcribe soil logs using gINT software
• Support laboratory index testing, including moisture content, proctor tests, sieve analyses, and Atterberg limits
• Assist with construction quality control and quality assurance work
• Conduct pile and subgrade inspections as delegated by the Engineer of Record (EoR)
• Maintain a safety-first approach and high work standards
• Perform field soil compaction testing with soil density gauges
• Use AutoCAD for drafting tasks

Qualifications and Experience

• 1-2 full construction seasons of relevant experience
• Training in soils description and identification
• Ability to collaborate with EoRs and resolve geotechnical issues on-site
• Proficiency in reading drawings and specifications
• Effective communication skills for discussions with consultants and contractors
• Ability to produce clear field reports with attention to detail
• Own vehicle and valid insurance for travel to project sites

The salary range for this role is $50,000 to $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience, certifications, and work location.
