Job summary

Englobe is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician in Ontario to support investigations, perform field testing, and monitor site conditions across infrastructure and development projects. The role emphasizes travelling to field sites, documenting results, and maintaining strict safety practices.

You will work under a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, gaining exposure to drilling programs, earthworks inspection, and laboratory testing while advancing in geotechnical engineering and infrastructure

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil or Geotechnical field.
• 3–5 years geotechnical, materials testing, or construction inspection experience.
• Driver's license (Ontario G) preferred/required.
• Familiarity with field testing procedures and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist geotechnical subsurface investigations including borehole drilling, test pits, soil sampling, and groundwater monitoring.
• Coordinate drilling and utility clearance activities.
• Log soil and rock samples under the direction of geotechnical engineers.
• Monitor and document field investigations and site conditions.
• Install and monitor groundwater observation wells and piezometers.
• Collect soil, rock, aggregate, asphalt, and groundwater samples for laboratory testing.
• Prepare factual reports, summaries, data sheets, or graphs for interpretation by the supervisor.
• Maintain health and safety records and equipment documentation.
• Travel out of town for extended periods to remote areas when required.
• Apply Englobe's health and safety rules.

The Geotechnical Field Technician is responsible for supporting geotechnical investigations, field testing, and monitoring activities under the direction of a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will work primarily in the field, gathering subsurface information, performing testing and inspections, documenting site conditions on infrastructure, transportation, municipal, commercial, and development projects.

This role provides a strong foundation for a career in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, materials testing, and infrastructure consulting.

Your main responsibilities

• Assist with geotechnical subsurface investigations including borehole drilling, test pits, soil sampling, and groundwater monitoring;
• Coordinate drilling and utility clearance activities;
• Log soil and rock samples under the direction of geotechnical engineers;
• Monitor and document field investigations and site conditions;
• Install and monitor groundwater observation wells and piezometers;
• Collect soil, rock, aggregate, asphalt, and groundwater samples for laboratory testing;
• Preparing factual reports, summaries, data sheets or graphs for interpretation of test results by the supervisor;
• Consistently executing safe work practices and work plans while completing field, laboratory and office work;
• Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts;
• Maintaining records of health and safety information, calibration certificates, equipment manuals and applicable standards;
• Traveling out of town for extended periods of time to remote areas to fulfill field work responsibilities as required;
• Apply and promote Englobe's health and safety rules.

What makes you unique

• Technical Diploma in a field related to Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering;
• 3 to 5 years of geotechnical, materials testing, or construction inspection experience;
• Previous experience with drilling programs, earthworks inspection, or laboratory testing is considered an asset;
• Experience working on transportation, municipal, or infrastructure projects is preferred;
• Understanding of soil classification and basic geotechnical principles;
• Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications;
• Familiarity with field testing procedures and documentation requirements;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
• Lifting and carrying equipment up to 25 kg;
• Walking on uneven terrain and active construction sites;
• Occasional overtime, early morning, evening, and weekend work based on project requirements;
• Must have a valid Ontario G Driver's License;
• Demonstrated interest and sensitivity towards occupational health and safety.

The salary range for this position is $47,934 to $62,913 CAD base per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined based on a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience and qualifications, their positioning within our internal compensation structure, and relevant geographic cost-of-living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good-faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.

Compensation may also include a comprehensive benefits package, performance incentives, or bonus eligibility depending on role level and business unit. We aim to foster transparency, respect candidate time and ensure equitable compensation aligned with our company values.
