Job summary

Englobe is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to support field sampling, drilling, and reporting on diverse projects across the environment and climate markets. The role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and adaptability within a dynamic team in Waterloo region.

The candidate will perform environmental fieldwork, collect soil and groundwater samples, coordinate drilling missions, and assist with data documentation and reporting, with travel and fieldwork year-round.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in environmental drilling and test pitting, including soil and groundwater sampling, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Phase I/One and II/Two ESAs is an asset.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and field-testing procedures is advantageous.
  • Eligible for Federal Government security clearance; Reliability or Secret clearance is a strong asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Available to work outdoors year-round; travel and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Apply, promote, and adhere to Englobe’s health and safety policies on all project sites and work locations.
  • Perform environmental fieldwork including sampling of groundwater, surface water, potable water, and sediments.
  • Coordinate environmental drilling and test pit programs, including geotechnical fieldwork.
  • Document field activities, compile data, and prepare technical reports using templates.
  • Prepare laboratory chains of custody, maintain field records, and coordinate sample submissions to laboratories.
  • Maintain and operate field equipment, including calibration and maintenance.
  • Support regulatory compliance related to excess soils and contaminated sites.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including timesheet completion.

Your main responsibilities
  • Apply, promote, and strictly adhere to Englobe’s health and safety policies on all project sites and work locations;
  • Perform environmental fieldwork, including sampling of groundwater, surface water, potable water, and sediments;
  • Coordinate and carry out environmental drilling and test pit programs, including geotechnical and integrated geo-environmental fieldwork;
  • Document field activities, compile data, and prepare technical reports using established templates;
  • Prepare laboratory chains of custody, maintain detailed field records, and coordinate sample submissions to laboratories;
  • Manage, maintain, and operate field equipment, including calibration, charging, and routine maintenance;
  • Apply regulatory requirements and guidelines related to excess soils, contaminated sites, and environmental compliance;
  • Support project execution through required administrative tasks, including timesheet completion.
What makes you unique
  • Hold post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience);
  • 0 to 3 years experience as an environmental consultant in environmental drilling and test pitting, collection of soil and groundwater samples required;
  • Reporting experience in Phase I/One and II/Two ESAs, Excess Soil Management would be an asset;
  • Understanding of and/or ability to learn technical laboratory and field-testing procedures required;
  • Be eligible to obtain Federal Government security clearance; active Reliability or Secret clearance is considered a strong asset;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with occupational health and safety requirements in field environments;
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable personal vehicle;
  • Be available to work outdoors in field environments year-round, typically 3–5 days per week, with flexibility for schedule changes, travel, and occasional overtime;
  • Travel locally and as required, provincially or nationally to urban and remote project sites.

The salary range for this position is $47,934$ to $62,913 CAD base per annum, based on the responsibilities of the role, internal equity, and current market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined based on a combination of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience and qualifications, their positioning within our internal compensation structure, and relevant geographic cost-of-living considerations, where applicable. This range represents a realistic and good-faith estimate of the compensation we expect to offer for this role.

Compensation may also include a comprehensive benefits package, performance incentives, or bonus eligibility depending on role level and business unit. We aim to foster transparency, respect candidate time and ensure equitable compensation aligned with our company values.
