Earth Sciences and Engineering specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting, and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.

Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Earth Science Consulting group, supporting the Geotechnical in Mississauga or Niagara Falls offices.

Earth Sciences and Consulting specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting, and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to projects in the Infrastructure, Mining, and Energy sectors. Responsibilities include participating in a wide range of projects involving advanced numerical modeling, analysis, and design for both front-end planning and detailed engineering phases for multi-discipline projects and geotechnical site investigations.

As the successful candidate, you will:

• Lead advanced geotechnical and geomechanics studies with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope.
• Identify project works that can add to the geotechnical field and where possible write a paper.
• Participate in scoping requirements for proposals.
• Contribute to design reviews and represent the discipline in engineering coordination meetings.
• Provide and/or coordinate training for project resources.
• Prepare and review project procedures, standards, and design criteria.
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by team members.
• Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process and facilitate technical knowledge sharing across projects and offices.
• Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design, including office and field-based geotechnical engineering.
• Provide specialist advice and analytical services, prepare calculations, technical specifications, memos, and reports.
• Contribute to cost estimates and stamp documents and drawings as registered.
• Support construction supervision and management as needed.
• Work to ensure safety and integrity principles are incorporated into design documentation.

You bring to the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degrees preferred.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, or Engineer in Training.
• 10+ years of relevant geotechnical design experience.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary projects, understanding of design standards, and good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with safety awareness.
