Duties
Maintain the spatial and non-spatial databases of the Management Unit. Provide geomatics services and technical advice related to the collection, management, analysis, integration, and presentation of geospatial and non-geospatial data to support park management activities and resource conservation.Carry out, lead/supervise, and participate in projects related to applied science, monitoring, and/or active management in support of the Resource Management Program.

The Parks Canada team working at the National Park Reserve of the Archipelago Mingan includes 20 employees nearly 80 people in the summer. The fieldwork, exclusively on islands, requires travel which is provided by Parks Canada boat operators. Departures are from the marina of Havre-Saint-Pierre or Mingan.

Intent of the process
Specified term position: 6 months, with possibility of extension.

Conditions of employment
  • Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.
  • Maintain a valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical examination in accordance with the policy for isolated positions.
  • Be able to travel independently to various work locations (Havre-Saint-Pierre and Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan areas).
Operational Requirements
You need (essential for the job)

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following

  • A degree from a recognized university or college with specialization in Geomatics, Geography, or Cartography.
  • or
  • A degree from a recognized university or college with specialization in Environmental and/or Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geology) or another discipline relevant to the position. Note: Proof of education must be submitted with the application to minganrh-hrmingan@pc.gc.ca.
  1. Experience in the acquisition, management, quality control, processing, analysis, and dissemination of scientific and geospatial data from a variety of sources, including GPS/GNSS, aerial and satellite imagery, LiDAR, field surveys, and databases.
  2. Experience using:
    • The Esri suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal for ArcGIS), Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Dashboards.
    • Spatial database management systems such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, and GeoPackage.
    • SQL and automation and analysis tools such as Python and R.

Applied / assessed at a later date

  • Knowledge of current geomatics trends, methods (data compilation, processing, analysis, and dissemination), systems, standards, and tools as applied to ecology or ecosystem management using a variety of software and applications.
  • Knowledge of scientific testing methods, procedures, and data/sample collection techniques.
  • Ability to acquire, store, process, and disseminate scientific and geospatial data.
  • Ability to respond to a wide variety of geomatics requests and manage competing priorities.
