Job summary

McElhanney is seeking Geomatics/Survey graduates or early‑career professionals to join our Edmonton geomatics team. You’ll gain hands‑on experience outdoors and in the office, working on real projects with seasoned professionals, starting around May/Summer 2026.

This role supports municipal infrastructure, transportation, utilities, and resource projects on field‑heavy sites and may involve travel up to 21 days at a time. Our team values safety, travel readiness, and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Diploma, degree or technical education in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Genuine interest in field-based, hands-on work.
• Willingness to work outdoors for extended periods, in varied terrain and weather.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support setup, operation, and maintenance of survey equipment.
• Assist with setup and operation of survey instruments under supervision.
• Work with survey teams to prepare files, maps, and data for delivery.
• Place stakes, marks, control points, and assist with utilities/survey monuments.
• Maintain and monitor condition of survey equipment and vehicles.
• Work across urban, remote, and wilderness sites.
• Participate in McElhanney’s safety practices and think safe, work safe, get home safe.
• Expect early starts and active days outdoors.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for Geomatics / Survey graduates or early‑career professionals who want to be outdoors, on active project sites, and learning by doing. As part of McElhanney’s Geomatics team in Edmonton, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across field and office environments, working on real projects alongside experienced professionals.

We anticipate this role will start around May/Summer 2026, with some flexibility depending on the successful candidate’s availability and project needs.

You’ll be exposed to a wide range of surveying and geomatics work, supporting municipal infrastructure, transportation, utilities, and resource‑related projects. This is a field‑heavy, physically active role that suits people who enjoy variety, travel, and responsibility early in their career.

This role may support work across our Facilities, Regulatory, and Construction Geomatics teams, depending on project needs, team capacity, and the successful candidate’s interests and skillset.

• You are based in Edmonton or surrounding areas, or willing to relocate.
• You hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• You are eligible to drive for work, with a clean driving record.
• You enjoy and are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• You are able to travel and work away from home for extended periods (up to 21 days / 3 weeks at a time).
• You are comfortable working on active worksites and in remote or rural locations.
• This role is designated as safety sensitive, and pre‑employment drug & alcohol testing and site‑access testing will be required.

What You’ll Do

As part of our Geomatics team, you’ll:

• Support the set‑up, operation, and maintenance of survey equipment.
• Assist with the set‑up and operation of survey instruments under the direction of Party Chiefs or Field Supervisors.
• Work closely with survey teams to prepare files, maps, and data for project delivery.
• Place stakes, marks, control points, and assist with identifying or exposing utilities and survey monuments.
• Maintain, monitor, and report on the condition of survey equipment and vehicles.
• Work across urban sites, remote locations, and wilderness settings.
• Participate in McElhanney’s industry‑leading safety practices, ensuring teams Think Safe, Work Safe, and Get Home Safe.
• Expect early starts, active days, and plenty of time outdoors.

What You’ll Bring

• A diploma, degree or technical education in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.

The wage range for this position is $24 - $29 per hour. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
