Founded in 1992, musica intima (mi) has grown from grassroots beginnings to a fully professional vocal ensemble that has championed Canadian music on stages around the world. As one of Canada’s most esteemed vocal ensembles, mi’s unique collaborative leadership model invites each of the 12 members to be co-artistic directors, fostering idea exchange and individual musical creativity.

musica intima aims to be a role model in "going beyond the land acknowledgment," building relationships with IBPOC artists across disciplines and promoting inclusivity in the arts community. Over the past three years, mi has released a JUNO-nominated album, won a WCMA, undertaken two cross-country tours, launched a digital EP, and established a groundbreaking, composer-centric publisher. Our collaborative rehearsal model reflects throughout the organization, with staff, Board, and artistic personnel working together to foster human connection through vocal music.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager (GM) oversees operations, marketing, and the management of the musica intima Society. The GM advises the Board on organizational welfare, including financial management, marketing, and development, providing leadership and maintaining relationships with stakeholders. The GM also supports the Artistic Manager (AM) in fulfilling the artistic vision of musica intima.

Responsibilities:

1. Organizational Management and Administration:
   • Manages the organization in line with its mission, vision, mandate, and values.
   • Communicates with the Board regarding operations.
   • Participates as an ex officio member of board committees.
   • Maintains databases of donors, subscribers, and contacts.
   • Administers the website, including ticket sales, season info, CD orders, and publications.
2. Grant Writing and Development:
   • Maintains relations with funding bodies, foundations, and donors.
   • Prepares and submits grant applications with input from the AM and ensemble.
   • Oversees fundraising activities, including events and networking.
   • Works with the Board to develop long-term fundraising strategies.
3. Financial Management:
   • Develops and manages the annual budget.
   • Oversees financial activities with the treasurer and bookkeepers.
   • Handles banking, deposits, payments, and financial reconciliation.
4. Marketing:
   • Promotes the artistic value of musica intima.
   • Creates or sources season imagery and marketing plans.
   • Develops social media strategies and content.
5. Concert Production:
   • Manages all concert aspects, including venue rentals, front-of-house, volunteers, and audience relations.
   • Ensures all performance permissions, insurance, and licensing are secured.
6. Artistic Operations:
   • Supports artistic planning, development, and programming.
   • Books tours, performances, and workshops.
7. Human Resources:
   • Ensures proper contracting and payment of singers.
   • Guides HR matters in collaboration with the Board.

Qualifications:

• Strong writing, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving.
• Methodical, detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and accountability.
• Positive energy and integrity in promoting artistic and organizational excellence.
• Degree in Arts Management/Administration or proven leadership in non-profit arts organizations.
• Proficiency in social media marketing, Adobe Suite (Premiere, InDesign, Photoshop), WIX, QuickBooks Online, Airtable is an asset.
