Job description

The Jericho Sailing Centre Association (JSCA) is a self-funded not-for-profit organization committed to providing inclusive and affordable access to ocean recreation through non-motorized watercraft. We are currently seeking a General Manager to provide visionary leadership and operational oversight during an important new chapter in our organization’s history.

What You’ll Do

The General Manager will assume overall responsibility for the successful operation, strategic development, and community representation of the JSCA. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of JSCA facilities and services, including staff coordination, facility maintenance, equipment care, safety operations, and rescue response readiness.
  • Financial and Administrative Stewardship: Oversee all budgeting, financial reporting, membership systems, and regulatory compliance. Prepare and present documentation for monthly Board and Committee meetings as well as the Annual General Meeting.
  • Strategic Planning and Capital Projects: Lead the long-term development and refinement of JSCA’s 10-year strategic and capital investment plan. Explore diverse funding sources to support sustainable operations and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Event Programming and Promotion: Direct the coordination and promotion of JSCA’s annual calendar of community and competitive events. Ensure all programming aligns with JSCA’s mission, adhering to the highest standards of safety, inclusivity, and professionalism.
  • Governance and Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage both full-time staff and seasonal/volunteer personnel. Collaborate with the Board on policy development, compliance, and the advancement of JSCA’s constitutional mission.
  • Stakeholder and Community Engagement: Serve as the public face of JSCA in communications with members, partner organizations, government bodies, marine authorities, and the broader community.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished, mission-driven leader with a strong track record of managing complex recreational or not-for-profit operations. Preferred qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 5–7 years of senior management experience, ideally within a recreational, sports, marine, or community-based organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial oversight.
  • Proven capacity to lead diverse teams. Experience in recruitment, performance management, and volunteer coordination is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage constructively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with sailing and marine operations is preferred, along with a genuine enthusiasm for ocean recreation and community programming.
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Recreation Management, Non-Profit Leadership, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Full-time, permanent, with flexible seasonal work schedule.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including extended health and generous vacation.
