Job summary

Finning Canada is hiring 50 Gas Compression Technicians to support expanding operations in Fort St John. You will troubleshoot and oversee repairs on Caterpillar gas engines in the shop and in the field, leveraging your CAT G3600 experience to deliver reliable service to our customers.

The role requires a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification (Millwright or Automotive also accepted) and at least two years as a journeyman technician, with strong electrical and powertrain

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician Certification (Millwright and Automotive also accepted).
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Journeyman Technician.
  • CAT G3600 experience is essential.
  • Previous CAT general line experience including troubleshooting skills and a good understanding of CAT engine and powertrain components.
  • 2 years experience on gas engines and compressors.
  • 2 years experience operating a service truck.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Field diagnosis and running repairs.
  • Largescale overhauls and rebuilds.
  • Component replacements.
  • Completing required paperwork and maintaining clear customer communication.

Wage: $54.79-$60.88 base hourly rate (+RWA+premiums)

Shift: 14x14 continuous shift (5x2 for locals)

Travel: up to $1000 travel pay to commute to Fort St John area

Accommodation: Supplied (different options available)

Logistics: Tooled truck supplied

Job Description

In this role, you’ll put your skills into action by partnering directly with customers to keep their operations running at peak performance. You’ll troubleshoot and oversee repairs on a wide range of Caterpillar gas and diesel engines—both in the shop and out in the field—leveraging your technical knowledge to build trust, solve challenges, and deliver the reliability our customers depend on. Your work will include:

  • A condition of employment may include the ability to obtain Customer Site access (Drug & Alcohol, fitness testing) and wear a respirator where applicable
