Job summary

Nova Scotia Power in Lakeside, NS is seeking a Garage Supervisor to lead the Truck and Transport repair facility and PETC. This permanent role focuses on safety, efficiency, and budget adherence while guiding a team toward continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have Red Seal credentials, 5+ years in leadership at a truck/transport facility, and a valid driver's license. Class 3 is an asset, with opportunities for growth within Fleet Services.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal certification in Truck and Transport trade or equivalent management experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in a truck/transport repair facility.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operation of the Truck and Transport repair facility and the PETC.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations and training requirements.
  • Work with team to ensure operation adheres to annual budget.
  • Monitor productivity and performance to meet departmental goals.
  • Identify and participate in operational improvement and business development.
  • Develop employees in a continuous improvement environment for future growth.
  • Develop and maintain standards for heavy duty vehicle purchases and repairs.
  • Ensure timely invoicing for PPE testing for 3rd parties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager.

We are currently looking for a Garage Supervisor to join our Fleet Services team in a permanent position at our Garage in Lakeside, NS

Key elements of this role include:
As the Garage Supervisor, you will:
  • Supervise the daily operation of the Truck and Transport repair facility and the Protective Equipment Test Centre (PETC).
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and training requirements.
  • Work with team to ensure operation adheres to annual budget.
  • Monitor productivity and performance to ensure departmental goals are met.
  • Identify and participate in operational improvement, efficiency opportunities, and business development.
  • Managing and developing employees in a continuous improvement environment, preparing for future career growth.
  • Work with team to develop and maintain standards for heavy duty vehicle purchases and repairs.
  • Ensure timely invoicing/billing for protective equipment testing for 3rd parties
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager

  • Red Seal certification in the Truck and Transport trade with 5+ years of experience or: Equivalent experience in the management of a truck and transport repair facility
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Highly organized, hardworking and self-driven
  • Strong time management abilities to oversee our service operations.
  • A valid drivers license required.
  • Having a class 3 drivers license would be considered as an asset.
  • Prior leadership experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience with aerial device repair or CUFC certification would be an asset

You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  • Perform frequent static reaching between waist level and shoulder level, along with performing minimal reaching below waist and above shoulder.
  • Perform frequent standing, walking and neck extension.
  • Perform occasional sitting, climbing, bending, stooping, forward flexional reaching, and neck flexion and rotation.
  • Perform minimal squatting, kneeling, and crouching, along with performing crawling on a rare basis.
