Job summary

Nova Scotia Power is hiring Electricians (Industrial) to join the System Maintenance team in Milton and Lakeside. The role involves routine electrical maintenance and repair across the province, with travel and on-call responsibilities, under a safety-sensitive policy.

Qualified candidates hold Journeyman Industrial Electrician certification (or Construction Electrician with plan to upgrade) and have relevant troubleshooting experience. A valid NS driver’s license is required.

  • Certification as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician with a minimum of two years’ experience troubleshooting electrical equipment is required.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of routine electrical maintenance and repair work on equipment throughout the Territory.
  • Work as part of the Substation Operations team in a planned work environment.
  • Travel throughout the province as required and assist with emergency/storm-related power restoration.

Locations: Lakeside and Milton

We are looking for 2 Electricians (Industrial) to join our System Maintenance Team in a permanent position.

Reporting to the System Maintenance Supervisor, you will become a member of a team of professionals at our location in Milton and Lakeside and you will perform all aspects of routine electrical maintenance and repair work on equipment throughout the Territory.

As an Electrician (Industrial):

  • You must be able to work effectively as a member of the Substation Operations team and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment.
  • You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
  • You will be required to assist with emergency / storm related power restoration.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
  • Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of the work location depot, and you will be required to take on call rotation and work other than normal hours and/or in extreme conditions.You will have 90 days to provide proof of primary residence.
These skills will make you successful:
  • Certification as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician with a minimum of two years’ experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required. If no qualified candidates apply, consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician, with the expectation they will complete their Industrial Electrician Certification within an agreed timeframe.
  • You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • You must have the skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties, including working at considerable heights and within watercourses.
  • You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Operation and maintenance experience associated with Substations would be considered an asset. Class 3 Drivers license would be considered an asset. Trailer endorsement would also be considered an asset. Consideration may be given to members of an Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program if no qualified candidates apply.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  • Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the floor to waist level on an occasional basis and 70 lbs. from shoulder to overhead level on a minimal basis. Able to carry 70 lbs. with both hands on a minimal basis, with the overall ability to carry 30 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Able to push and pull 50 lbs. with whole body strength and be able to push and pull 100 lbs. with upper body strength on an occasional basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist to above shoulder level on a frequent basis and from below waist level on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing and twisting. Perform occasional walking and neck flexion and rotation movements.
  • Perform sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
