Job description

The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household goods collection service. With more than 5,000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect gently used clothing and household items to raise funds for Diabetes Canada.

Annually, our program diverts over 100 million pounds of items from landfills. As a team member, you will contribute to our coverage in 2,500 communities through 28 operations and 100 trucks, making a positive environmental and charitable impact.

Hours of Work:

This role involves up to 29 hours weekly, with a schedule developed collaboratively based on operational needs.

About the Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will drive established routes to collect donations from homes and bins, then deliver these to our partners and storage facilities. Key responsibilities include:

• Promoting the mission of the National Diabetes Trust
• Understanding organizational goals, services, and structure
• Operating vehicles safely and legally
• Conducting vehicle inspections and completing paperwork
• Logging all pickups and route activities
• Ensuring proper vehicle and equipment use and return
• Communicating with dispatch and providing donor messages
• Participating in all required safety and operational training

About You:

• Grade 12 or equivalent experience
• Map reading and route planning skills
• Ability to handle loads of 10-50 lbs.
• Valid Class 5/G license with 2+ years driving experience (or 5+ without training)
• Clean driver abstract (less than 21 days old, no violations/accidents in 3 years)
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
