Part Time: Up to 29 hours per week

Our Organization

The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and household goods collection service. With over 5,000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect gently used clothing and household items to raise funds for Diabetes Canada.

Annually, the program diverts over 100 million pounds of items from landfills. As part of our team, you contribute to our presence in 2,500 communities, with 28 operations and 100 trucks, supporting charitable programs and environmental sustainability.

Hours of Work

Up to 29 hours weekly, with a schedule developed collaboratively based on operational needs.

About the Charitable Donations Pickup Driver Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role involves driving established routes to collect donated items from homes and donation bins, then delivering them to our partners and storage facilities.

  • Promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the public and volunteers
  • Understand and communicate organizational goals, services, and programs
  • Operate vehicles safely and in compliance with laws
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and complete required paperwork daily
  • Maintain logs and documentation accurately
  • Check in with dispatch at scheduled times
  • Provide courteous service and appropriate messaging to donors
  • Log pickups and unload merchandise as instructed
  • Return equipment daily and report discrepancies
  • Ensure only authorized personnel ride in trucks
  • Participate in all relevant training and initiatives
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support operations
About You
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Ability to read maps and handle loads of 10-50 lbs.
  • Valid Class 5 or G license, with at least 5 years of driving experience (2 years with professional training)
  • Clean driver abstract (less than 21 days old), with no violations or accidents in the past 3 years
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude in public and stressful situations
