Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd in Fort St John, BC, is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the metal recycling facility’s day-to-day operations, guiding yard crews to achieve safety, quality, productivity and cost objectives.

The role requires directing site operations, coordinating activities, and driving continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in heavy industrial, construction, recycling, manufacturing, or similar environment.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Experience leading diverse teams across levels.
• Strong organizational, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives is a plus.
• Machine operating experience (Excavator, Mobile Shear, Skid Steer, Grapple, or similar) is an asset but not required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills across organization levels.

Responsibilities

• Leads and promotes EH&S programs and policies to create a safe work environment.
• Provides day-to-day leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to yard employees and project crews.
• Coordinates daily yard and project site operations for safe, efficient work.
• Assists with workforce planning, training, onboarding, and performance management.
• Coordinates pickup, unloading, processing, storage, and loading of materials to maximize safety and productivity.
• Collaborates with operators, drivers, and site personnel to prioritize work and allocate resources.
• Helps develop and implement facility standard operating procedures.
• Monitors performance and drives continuous improvement initiatives.
• Measures and reports operational and service-related data.
• Supports projects and other duties as assigned.
