Job summary

University of Ottawa Medical Associates (UMA) is seeking a Full-Time Medical Claims Clerk to handle medical billing submissions and related processes. You will work closely with the Business Manager, using EPIC and the RSMO Portal to ensure timely, accurate payments and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of medical billing experience, with a billing certificate or medical office administration training, and familiarity with RAMQ and OHIP.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years recent related experience in medical billing.
  • Medical billing certificate/course or medical office administration training preferred.
  • Knowledge of RAMQ and third‑party billing is a plus.
  • Proficiency with EPIC is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in billing and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with stakeholders and responds to inquiries.
  • Corrects or adjusts payments using the RAI to ensure accuracy.
  • Generates reports as requested and reviews monthly charges.
  • Processes revenues from OHIP, RAMQ, TOH, OHRI and other sources; runs monthly reports.
  • Enter billing in the RSMO Portal for physician portfolios and update physicians.

Job description

Join our dynamic team at the University of Ottawa Medical Associates (UMA) int he position of Full-Time Medical Claims Clerk. Reporting to the Business Manager, the incumbent is responsible for medical billing submissions and related processes to ensure timely and accurate financial transactions. The Full-Time Medical Billing Clerk utilizes accounting and EMR software to address partner inquiries as well as errors, omissions and discrepancies.

  • Communicates with stakeholders and responds to inquiries.
  • Using the RAI, corrects or adjusts as required ensuring payments are accurate
  • Generates reports as requested
  • Ensures all charge work queues and RSMO are reviewed before the monthly deadline
  • Using ‘Secure Access’ in EPIC, uploads EDT errors
  • Track OHIP inquiries, review responses; determine next step, if any
  • Identify and rectify payment discrepancies; liaise with OHIP to ensure pay adjustments are completed as directed
  • Coordinates and/or attends meetings as directed
  • Responsible for entering billing in the RSMO Portal for physician portfolio
  • Regularly updates physicians and responds to inquiries
  • Process/enter revenues from all sources (OHIP, RAMQ, TOH, OHRI, etc.) and run monthly reports
  • Experience with EPIC an asset
  • Responds to communications (calls, messages, emails, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Maintains accurate records of all receivables, invoices, supporting documentationand statements in accordance with office records retention policies and practices
  • 1-2 years recent related experience in medical billing, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Medical billing certificate/course or Medical office administration from a recognized educational institution is preferred
  • Knowledge of RAMQ and Third-Party billing
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite is an asset
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills – able to clearly express self to patients and provide specific instructions;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in speaking and comprehending both English and French preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills to coordinate multiple activities;
  • Good judgment; able to identify when to seek supervisor’s assistance or advice;
  • Strong problem-solving abilities;
  • Able to navigate and populate electronic databases;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information;
  • Initiative, tact, dedication, diplomacy and positive attitude;
  • Highly dependable and thorough;
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
