Job summary

Job description

Part‑time Community‑Based Personal Support Worker (PSW) – Durham

Schedule Requirements
  • Full‑time position (37.5‑40 hours per week)
  • Must be available Monday‑Friday, with flexibility for day, evening, and overnight shifts preferred
  • Must be able to commit to a consistent, ongoing weekly schedule for the foreseeable future
  • Available and willing to see multiple clients throughout the day
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to clients as outlined in their care plans
  • Provide companionship and light housekeeping to help a person stay at home
  • Prepare meals in accordance with the client’s or family’s request, being open to preparing different kinds of cuisine
  • Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) within the scope of practice for a Personal Support Worker
  • Assist clients with transfers, ambulation, and exercises
  • Meet safety needs of the client and use equipment safely and properly
  • Work within the limits of own experience and knowledge, practicing safely and competently within the job description
  • Complete records and documentation accurately and thoroughly
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a car for daily work
  • Ability to travel between assignments within designated areas; asset for rural/remote travel
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English
  • PSW certification from an approved and recognized educational institution or international nursing/doctorate certification
  • Negative TB test completed within the last year
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certificate
  • Valid WHMIS 2015 certificate of completion
  • COVID‑vaccination receipt (subject to exemption pursuant to Ontario’s Human Rights Code)
  • Immunizations for measles, rubella, varicella, tetanus, and diphtheria required; Hepatitis B strongly urged
  • Valid criminal record check completed within the last year
  • Ability to identify and report client care concerns to Care Coordinators when needed
  • Good judgment, ability to work independently, and to work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Current/Valid Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) registration is an asset
