Job summary

YMCA Cedar Glen is seeking a Front Desk Host to support guest experiences, manage daily front desk operations, and coordinate site activities. You will ensure smooth check-ins, respond to guest needs, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment.

The role requires flexibility for evenings and weekends, strong customer service skills, and a commitment to diversity and wellbeing of children and youth in YMCA programs.

Qualifications

  • OSSD or equivalent experience.
  • First Aid & CPR Level C certification required or valid within WSIB approved provider.
  • Experience in a customer service environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an Account Holder relationship with a portfolio of groups and manage communications from booking to post-visit follow-up.
  • Welcome guests, check in, confirm numbers and dietary info, complete paperwork, collect room assignments, and arrange special requests.
  • Check in guests during their stay and assist with questions or issues as they arise.
  • Deliver a community meeting and meal speech on arrival, introducing site rules and emergency procedures.
  • Support multiple departments (Food Service, Maintenance, Housekeeping) with group visits, restocking and setup tasks.
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures, including Covid-19 guidelines, are followed and site remains clean and safe.
  • Oversee group departure, collect keys, tidy spaces, and return equipment.
  • Close up at end of day: turn off lights, adjust heat, secure doors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Front Desk Host provides support to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all guests. The role involves coordinating daily operations at the front desk, assisting visitors, and supporting site activities. It requires maintaining effective communication with guests and team members and helping to ensure a safe and organized environment. The position also contributes to the overall efficiency of site operations. Front Desk Host performs a variety of tasks to support the day-to-day functioning of the facility.

In this role, you will:
  • Maintain an Account Holder relationship with a set portfolio of groups, managing all communication from initial booking to post-visit follow-up, including virtual and in-person information sessions, to ensure all guests have an enjoyable experience at Cedar Glen
  • Welcome guests upon arrival and check them in by confirming numbers and dietary information, completing paperwork, collecting room assignment sheets, and gathering additional details or special requests, while ensuring any last-minute needs are communicated to relevant departments and appropriate arrangements are made
  • Check in regularly with guests during their stay and provide support throughout their visit, responding appropriately to any questions, needs, or issues as they arise
  • Deliver a community meeting and meal speech to each group on arrival, introducing them to the site, explaining emergency procedures, and providing guidelines and relevant information pertaining to their stay
  • Provide support to various departments, including Food Service, Maintenance, and Housekeeping, as it pertains to a group’s visit, which may include vacuuming or mopping, spot cleaning washrooms and meeting rooms, restocking paper products, supplies, and equipment, delivering snacks, and restocking beverage stations where necessary
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures, including Covid-19 guidelines, are adhered to, and share duties with the staff team to keep the site clean, organized, and safe
  • Be responsible for group departure and check out by collecting room keys and payment, tidying spaces and bedrooms used, and returning equipment such as AV carts and flip chart stands
  • Be responsible for end-of-day lock up, including turning off lights, adjusting heat, closing windows, and locking all doors
  • Perform other duties as assigned
You bring:
  • Completed or in the process of completing Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent experience
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification OR Intermediate First Aid and CPR level C certification issued by a WSIB approved provider prior to the first day of work
  • Experience working in a customer service environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with reduced supervision and collaborate as part of a team to prioritize and complete tasks
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers
  • Available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
