Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is seeking a casual Child Care Supply to support early childhood programming across multiple locations in Ontario. You will provide direct care, supervise groups of children, and deliver play-based learning plans in alignment with YMCA standards.

Applicants must be 18+, carry First Aid/CPR Level C, have a Vulnerable Sector Check, and be available for varied shifts; immunization requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion within 90 days.
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent per local health guidance and Child Care Early Years Act.
• Required availability: multiple shifts as listed.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to children in a group setting of up to 15 children.
• Engage with children and ensure supervision and safety.
• Plan and implement play-based learning per YMCA Curriculum.
• Maintain positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers.
• Support inclusive environment for children with diverse needs.

• Adhere to schedule, maintain ratios, notify supervisor of changes.

Position: Child Care Supply

Status: casual, as needed

Locations: Coldwater (Coldwater P.S.), Cumberland Beach (Severn Shores P.S.), Orillia (Couchiching Heights P.S., Harriett Todd P.S., Lions Oval P.S., Monsignor Lee C.S., Notre Dame C.S., Regent Park P.S.), Severn (Marchmont P.S.), Warminster (Warminster E.S.)

The opportunity: To build healthy, strong, connected communities through nurturing environments for children.

In this role, you will:

• Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
• Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
• Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
• Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
• Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
• Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
• Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
• Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
• Other duties as assigned

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
• Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
• Required availability: ongoing for a minimum of one of the following:
  • (a) Two (2) shifts per week, consisting of opening shifts (minimum availability 6:30-9:30 a.m.) and/or closing shifts (minimum availability 2:30-6:00 p.m.); or
  • (b) Two (2) full days per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; or
  • (c) One (1) full day per week with continuous, uninterrupted availability for all shifts scheduled between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., plus one (1) additional opening or closing shift per week, with availability from 6:30-9:30 a.m. (opening) or 2:30-6:00 p.m. (closing)
• Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
• Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
