Job summary

Beaverton YMCA Child Care Centre in Beaverton, ON is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Educator to plan and deliver a child-centred program using YMCA curricula for ages 0-12. You will provide high-quality care, develop learning through play, and collaborate with families to monitor progress.

The role requires an ECE diploma, CECE registration, at least six months of experience, First Aid/CPR, immunizations, and the ability to work rotating hours outdoors when needed.

Qualifications

• ECE diploma and CECE registration in good standing.
• Minimum six months of experience with children in a structured program.
• Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certification; immunizations up to date.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality compassionate care and support to children and their families.
• Build positive relationships with children and engage families in progress updates.
• Be a creative play partner and actively foster learning.
• Safely supervise children; may lead a group independently per licensing rules.
• Follow provincial and YMCA policies; observe and document development.
• Address children’s needs including diapering and toileting assistance.
• Clean and sanitize spaces and equipment; assist with meal preparation per health protocols.
• Attend curriculum training and maintain required qualifications.

Salary Rate: $54,600 ($28.00 per hour) - Rate of pay is made up of provincial wage funding and is inclusive of the CWELCC Workforce Funding

Location: Beaverton Beaver River YMCA Child Care Centre

Work Hours: Available to work rotating shifts Monday to Friday between 7:00am - 6:00pm

You will plan and deliver a consistent child-centred program in accordance with our YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum (0-6 year olds) and the YMCA Place to Connect curriculum (6-12 year olds). In this role, you will:

• Provide quality compassionate care and support to children and their families


• Build positive relationships with children and seek opportunities to deepen connections with parents and families keeping them up to date on their child’s progress


• Be a creative play partner who is actively engaged with the children and makes learning fun


• Independently ensure the safety and supervisor of children at all times. This role may include periods of sole responsibility for a group of children without other educators present, in accordance with licensing requirements


• Understand and comply with provincial (CCEYA), municipal and YMCA policies and procedures


• Observe and expand on children’s learning opportunities and complete required documentation of children’s development and interactions.


• Listen to and respond to children’s needs which includes diapering and assisting children with toileting


• Clean and sanitize child care spaces, toys and equipment; Prepare and serve food following YMCA health and safety protocols and procedures


• Attend required curriculum training and professional development opportunities. Maintain qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and provincial standards.

You bring

• An Early Childhood Educator Diploma


• Registered (or proof that registration is in process) and in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)


• Minimum of six months’ experience working with children. Demonstrated experience leading, supervising and engaging children in structured program environment, including managing routines, transitions and guiding age-appropriate behaviour


• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification OR Intermediate First Aid and CPR level C certification issued by a WSIB approved provider prior to the first day of work.


• Up-to-date immunizations required by Public Health


• Ability to usefrequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping; picking up a child


• Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold


• Flexibility and adaptability regarding assigned working hours

• Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
