As one of Canada's Platinum Best Managed Companies, we are seeking an energetic, focused, and experienced Fresh Produce Buyer to join our Calgary team. Our dynamic and talented teams of Buyers are among the key driving influences of our company, and their responsibilities propel our business.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you, as a Fresh Produce Buyer, will be a strategic contact for our suppliers and customers. Your responsibilities will be managing your produce commodities to meet customers’ produce needs and the overall margins, as well as liaising with all FDP departments to ensure exemplary service.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Procure a select basket of produce items for the Prairie market through strategic Buying and Sales opportunities
• Prepare an annual buying budget and updated forecasts for your produce commodities
• Negotiate price and claims concessions to ensure your items are competitive in the marketplace and provide optimal margins for the company
• Effectively process claims on a timely basis to ensure the company receives the highest margin
• Provide strategic assistance for cross-selling and/or cross-purchasing produce items
• Assist Accounting in credit control for their suppliers, and also seek credit approval along with credit monitoring for their customers
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

• College or University graduate (preferably Business or Economics), or equivalent hands-on experience and knowledge
• Experience in buying or selling in the fresh produce industry is required
• A minimum of 3 years’ solid hands-on produce industry experience
• Excellent negotiation skills
• Open-minded, flexible, and able to adapt and succeed in a multi-cultural work environment
• Motivation for sales and growth, and determination to meet goals
